    New York Paid Family Leave Policy

    Understanding the New York Paid Family Leave Policy (PFL) benefits agents and business owners by helping to facilitate a smooth compliance transition.     Bonding with Children

    Time away from work to care for and bond with a child after birth or adoption or foster care placement  

    • Must be taken within the first 12 months of the event
    • Disability may be taken after birth as well, but not at the same time as PFL
    Eligible parental relationships:
     
    • Birth
    • Step
    • Foster/Adoptive
    • Legal guardian
    • Loco parentis

    Care for Ill Family Member

    Time away from work to provide care for a family member with a "Serious Health Condition" including an illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition that involves:

    • In-patient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential health care facility
    • Continuing treatment or continuing supervision by a health care provider
    Eligible relationships:

    • Spouse/Domestic partner
    • Child
    • Parent
    • Parent-in-law
    • Grandparent
    • Grandchild

    Military Family Member Care

    Time away from work to manage a qualifying circumstance rising out of the fact that an eligible family member of the employee is on active duty (or has been notified of an impending call or order to active duty) in the armed forces of the United States.

    Eligible relationships:

    • Spouse/Domestic Partner
    • Parent or Step Parent
    • Child

    Paid Family Leave Benefits Schedule

    The Paid Family Leave benefits will increase each year over the next four years in both time of leave and benefit payout amounts.
